Liam himself finished 12th in the inaugural Cork City Marathon back in 1982.
Liam, who is a retired fire officer, was among 14 contestants who took part in last night’s final. He took home the perpetual trophy and a €1,000 cheque describing it as an “amazing journey.”

“I will never forget it. Third time lucky did not apply to me as this was my fifth appearance in the final. The whole experience has been fantastic for me and my family.”
The Over-60s competition is sponsored by the Evening Echo, Blackpool Shopping Centre and Lennox Hearing Aid specialists.
