ONE of Cork’s best-known mothers is set to release a book documenting her family’s experience in the limelight.

Mary Burke from Lisgoold performs with her daughter Dervla and son Derek as part of the hugely successful music act Crystal Swing.
However, she has now revealed a talent for writing in her tell-all book titled ‘Mary’s Crystal Dreams’ which she hopes to unveil this September.
The project will be illustrated with photographs from both before and leading up to her introduction with fame which began with an appearance on the popular Ellen De Gegeneres show back in 2010.
Mary confessed that parts of the book were extremely difficult to write.
She said: “I did shed a lot of tears. They were really flowing when I got to talking about the death of my parents, especially since I only recently lost my mum.
“It also talks about my faith. There is a real human side to the story which hones in on how I met Mike and gave birth to two beautiful children.”
“Luckily I’ve had no scandals in my life to report. The negative side of fame can be hard to deal with but my family have kept me grounded.
“At the end of the day, I am human and all humans are fragile. I do feel sorry for solo acts entering into the bright lights. I was really lucky to have my children joining me on the journey.”
Not content with establishing herself as an author and performer, Mary also hopes to make a name for herself as an actor.
“Obviously, I’m with the band now so that’s my first love but I’d love to get back into acting some day. I’m quite good at it and would like to act in a play in Cork Opera House. I really enjoy the different characters I get to play in the music videos we do. However, I would draw the line at playing vulgar parts.”
Since the band’s video of the song, ‘He Drinks Tequila’ was posted on YouTube in January, 2010, it has become an international hit – its website and YouTube videos attracting millions of hits, to date, from across the globe.
The band has also had three appearances on Ireland’s most-watched TV programme, The Late Late Show.
Mary is organising a book launch with a twist this September 15 at 8.30pm in the Midleton Park Hotel. The event will feature a concert that will see acts such as Johnny Carroll and Brian Cunningham take to the stage. Admission to the event is €15. The book will be available in a number of Cork outlets and will also be available to purchase online at www.crystalswing.com.
News of the book comes the day after it was revealed in the Evening Echo that Dervla, the youngest member of the family band, is expecting her first child in January with her husband, Tim.
