CORK’S Paralympians were given a special welcome home yesterday to pay tribute for their efforts in Rio.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Seamus McGrath, paid tribute to the athletes who helped Ireland secure 11 medals, four gold, four silver and three bronze. Three medals came to Cork following the success of Orla Barry, Noelle Lenihan and Niamh McCarthy in discus events.
Mayor McGrath said: “I am thrilled to welcome all the Cork Paralympians back home to Cork.”

“Our incredible athletes have seen phenomenal success in their respective sport and I would like to both congratulate and thank them all on behalf of the people of Cork. I would also like to offer enormous congratulations to our medal winners, Orla, Noelle and Niamh. I, together with the people of Cork, am extremely proud of what you have accomplished.”
