Youghal RNLI volunteer lifeboat braved choppy waters this morning after an angler taken ill on board a chartered fishing vessel.

The crew were tasked to launch today at 11.30am after reports that the casualty, a man, was conscious but pale.

The volunteer lifeboat crew located the vessel around a mile and a half off Capel Island.

The casualty had been unconscious but since regained consciousness before the lifeboat arrived. The crew recovered the man on board the lifeboat and administered care.

An ambulance was awaiting the lifeboat on its return to the station. They checked him over before giving him the all clear.

Commenting on the callout, Youghal RNLI Lifeboat helm John Griffin said: “They did the right thing in contacting us when the man became unwell, it’s always better to get them checked out correctly.”
