HUNDREDS TAKE PART IN BISHOPSTOWN REBEL RUN

THE 5th annual LeisureWorld Rebel Run races were a resounding success, with one of the largest turnouts to date.

576 people tackled 5km and 10km routes along the Curraheen River Walk in Bishopstown, finishing on the CIT Athletics Track.

The inclusion of a 5km fun event last year to increase participation across different levels proved a great success and 147 people took it on this year.

The main event attracted healthy competition, with Alan O’Shea from Bantry AC crossing the line first, followed by Anthony Mannix from Leevale and Tony Kelleher from Togher AC. The first three females to cross the line were Grainne O’Donnell, Dolores Duffy and Julie Kenneally.

This year a special prize was given in memory of Eithne Lydon Hammond who sadly passed away during 2016. Ms Lydon Hammond was a valued colleague of the Cork Sports Partnership and CIT. This prize was given to Noreen Ring who finished in 42nd position in the 5km event.
