Lidl store planned for Douglas

LIDL are planning a new supermarket in the centre of Douglas.

The supermarket will be located in an area called Barry’s Field off the Carrigaline Road to the rear of the car park for Barry’s Bar and Restaurant and bordered by the cemeteries of St Lukes and St Columba’s churches.

The retailer is seeking planning permission from Cork County Council to build a 2,871 square metre supermarket made up of a retail sales area, off-licence and bakery along with signage, trolley bays and a 110-space car park.

The main vehicle and pedestrian entrance to the proposed supermarket will be via a new entrance the Carrigaline Road with a new pedestrian entrance from Churchyard Lane.

The application was lodged on December 15 and a decision from planners is expected by February 17.
