The unseasonably glum July was felt nationwide with all rainfall stations showing above average rainfall.

The midlands and east escaped the worst with Mullingar reporting a monthly rainfall total of 76.5 mm, a mere 8% higher than the seasonal average.
However the south wasn’t so lucky, with Cork Airport recording 202% its average rainfall at 158.8 mm – making it the wettest July since 2009.
It wasn’t all gloom though with Cork Airport also reporting the most hours of sunshine recorded nationally, at 145 for the whole month while Knock Airport, County Mayo saw only 81.
But there is no sign in of a much hoped for Indian summer just yet with August already proving to be a wet one.
Some 25.8mm of rain has been recorded at Cork Airport in the first four days – that compares to 88.3mm for the entire month in Cork last August.
On top of that, last August’s lowest monthly rainfall in the entire country was 36.4mm at Kankturk.
