CRYSTAL Swing fans can rest assured that the band is stronger than ever, with guitarist Derek Burke confirming that he is not leaving the East Cork three piece.
Derek, who has recently been spotted performing with trad and rock band Flake the Gander, said the sideline is “just for fun” and a welcome break from his rigorous performance schedule.

“There are five of us in the band and we all went to school together.” he explained.
“We were best friends the whole way up and always singing together for fun so that’s where it started from.
“The lads decided to start a band and asked if I would be involved. Any night that I am free I play with them and it’s all good fun.
“There is no pressure, if someone makes a mistake so be it, but any night that Flake the Gander go out, there is a good crowd.”
The family band, who shot to fame almost six years ago with the single He drinks Tequila, are still enjoying success, with Derek confirming that there is “no fear” of a split. “February will mark six years since the video took off and for any band to be successful after six years means we must be doing something right.
“We have bookings into next year already so it’s looking very likely that we’ll keep going into year seven.”
Mom and keyboardist Mary said the band are “up the walls” at the moment. “This summer we’ve been playing festivals, we’re off to Portugal in September and then the UK.
“We’re also kept busy with weddings, functions, and concerts. You name it.”
She approves of Derek’s side project.
“Obviously Derek’s loyalties are with Crystal Swing but he has been a great asset to the lads because he knows the scene.
“It’s also a bit of a respite for him and a change of pace.
“They’re a very talented group of lads and making great strides for themselves.”
