A CITY councillor is to ask the Lord Mayor to grant a Civic Reception to hurling manager Jimmy Barry-Murphy.
The Cork legend announced his retirement at the weekend following Cork’s exit to Galway in July.

Despite their disappointment, fans have been quick to pay tribute
Independent City Councillor Mick Finn, who was coached to minor county championship medal by Barry-Murphy, said a Civic Reception was the least they could offer the champion for his dedication to Cork and to St Finbarr’s.
Barry-Murphy won five All-Ireland senior hurling medals, one senior football, numerous All-Ireland club medals, in both codes, with St Finbarr’s, along with several minor and U21 All-Irelands.
He also won an All-Ireland senior hurling title during his first stint as Cork manager in 1999.
“I think a Civic Reception is the very least he deserves given his service to Cork GAA,” Cllr Finn said.
“His contribution to Cork and to the Barrs is amazing. His status in Cork, Ireland and even overseas is just massive.
“I am sure a Civic Reception for the legend would have unanimous support,” Cllr Finn said.
Cork City Council members are meeting in committees this week but the next full Council meeting is on Monday September 14.
