JUST three out of more than 450 allegations against gardaí in Cork last year were found to have foundation.
The allegations were made against 181 gardai in the three Cork garda divisions, to the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission.
Just under 80 allegations were withdrawn while a further 20 failed to be progressed because of non-cooperation by the complainants.
110 were deemed inadmissible.
The three which were found to have been in breach of discipline were sanctioned by the Garda Commissioner Noirin O’Sullivan, with one being fined and two others given advice. Advice is the lowest level of disciplinary action which can be taken against gardai under the garda regulations, being lower than a caution.
The three found to be in breach of discipline were all in the Cork city garda division.
The figures were provided to the Evening Echo under the Freedom of Information Act.
It has not been revealed what the three gardai who were found to be in breach of discipline had done.
Allegations made included abuse of authority, criminal damage, discourtesy, discrimination, falsehood or prevarication, improper use of information, neglect of duty and road traffic infringements.
A spokeswoman for the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission said files relating to 23 other cases were sent to the Garda Commissioner, who found there was no breach of discipline involved.
