The Council is investing €70,000 in conjunction with a local businessman who will be responsible for operating and maintaining the train.
In the summer season the train will operate between 10am and 4pm and between 7pm and 10pm. The City council will also be consulted on the proposed routes and can require the train to service certain locations.
The specific routes and the winter time schedules have yet to be decided upon.
Galway City has a tourist train which connects Eyre Square with the aquarium, Spanish Arch and other attractions allowing tourists to hop on and off at their convenience.
