THE Lord Mayor has led calls for all of Leeside to get behind Cork City FC for the FAI Cup final against Dundalk at the Aviva in Dublin on Sunday.
Cllr Chris O’Leary welcomed City players, fans and backroom staff to City Hall last night to wish them well. City Hall is being lit up green all this week especially for the occasion and as part of the build-up shops, workplaces, schools and clubs are all urged to get behind the campaign and help turn Cork green.
Fans are also urged to show their support online by turning their Facebook and Twitter avatars green. “This match is a great occasion for the team and for the city,” Lord Mayor Cllr Chris O’Leary said.

“We know all of Cork will be behind them but we can really build up the excitement and the atmosphere.”
Up to 50 fans joined Cork City FC captain John Dunleavy, and players, Stephen Folan and Steven Beattie last night. Dundalk FC have already claimed the league title but City are now chasing the Cup title. They booked their place in the final thanks to Danny Morrissey’s second half goal against Bray Wanderers.
The Cork City side, with Dan Murray outstanding in front of the back four, held firm against Bray and deservedly progressed to their first FAI Cup final in eight years.

John said he was confident the fans will get behind the team in force to get them over the line to victory.
“The fans are magnificent, we know that. We see it every Sunday. To play at Turner’s Cross is a privilege,” he said.
Cork City FC superfan, Michael O’Donovan, from Douglas, said Sunday will be a tough game but is still predicting a victory.
“I’ve been to three away games so far this season and can’t wait for Sunday’s game at the Aviva,” he said.
“But I’m sure we can win. We might go one behind but we should win. 3-1 is my prediction,” he said.
