POPULAR Cork stout Mi Daza could soon be enjoyed by thousands of American customers under a deal to be announced with a major US market chain.
The Rising Sons brewery on Cornmarket Street currently produces the stout along with its other products, which are served in a number of Cork bars owned by publican Benny McCabe.
He said they were close to a deal with a major supermarket chain on the east coast of the US that would see Mi Daza included in an exciting new product offering. Mr McCabe also said he was continuing plans to bring back a spirit distillery to the city, producing gin and vodka, and is currently scouting different locations.
“We are considering various locations and deciding what the location would entail.
“We are already at maximum capacity at the Rising Sons so as well as gin and vodka we also plan to brew more lager and also roast our own coffee beans.”
Mr McCabe said they were also progressing plans to develop a new bar next year, called Phoenix Street Social, located directly opposite the entrance to the Crane Lane.
The Evening Echo recently reported how Mr McCabe’s Bodega venue was re-orientating itself for midweek weddings, which are becoming more popular.
He said the night scene was changing in Cork city and they were evolving to take advantage of those changes.
He also said the recent Jazz Festival was one of the most successful in recent memory.
“The Jazz Festival was the best I can remember since I first started working in the pub trade with my father as a schoolboy,” he said.
“There were queues outside venues that I had never seen before and the atmosphere was brilliant.”
