FloodingMotorists in Cork city and county are advised to drive with care and examine alternative routes this evening as heavy flooding has rendered many roads impassable.

Major delays are currently being experienced on the R610 Rochestown Road towards the cross river ferry in Passage West while the closure of the N40 left lane past Junction 10 at Mahon due to flooding has lead to heavy traffic along the South Ring Road.

There are closures on the R579 Carrigrohane/ Kanturk Road between Healy’s Bridge and Cloghroe while Main St in Killavullan Village is impassable. Diversions are also in place on the N25 Cork/Waterford Road which is impassable between Castlemartyr and Killeagh.

Meanwhile in the city there are reports that traffic is very slow particularly along the Quays and inbound on the South City Link Road from Turners Cross to Albert Street. Delays of up to 90 minutes have been reported heading toward the Jack Lynch Tunnel and motorists are advised to avoid Centre Park Road if possible as it is impassable due to flooding.

A Status Yellow Rainfall Warning remains in place for Cork until 9pm with AA Roadwatch advising drivers to exercise caution on wet roads, reduce speed and keep a safe distance from the car in front.
