Irving Oil, a privately-owned company which owns Canada’s largest oil refinery in New Brunswick, scored in the top 100 of 7,500 companies across the second largest country in the world.

Irving Oil, which took over Whitegate Oil Refinery from Phillips 66 earlier this year, told 160-plus employees in Cork last month that all their jobs were safe.
The company’s owner, Arthur Irving, who is said to be the 271st richest person in the world and worth $5.5bn according to Forbes magazine, told the employees that Cork felt much like home in New Brunswick, Canada, adding that he had his eye on Whitegate for 20 years.
He said: “If we come to Ireland and do the job we know we can do, then we will do wonderful things together. This company is all about people. We will play it straight and do good in the community. We won’t let you down.”
In the Canadian survey, Irving Oil scored an A grade for health and family benefits, community involvement and training. It scored a B+ grade for atmosphere and employee engagement, and a B grade for wages and holidays.
Irving Oil offers academic scholarships to children of employees worth up to $2,000 and five paid days off to employees to volunteer in charity work. It also offers up to 17 weeks parental leave for new mothers and fathers for 17 weeks, plus an extension for unpaid leave
