Two Francois Langur monkeys have become the latest additions to the Asian Sanctuary in Fota Wildlife Park.
Hailing from Vietnam and parts of China, they are one of the world’s rarest breeds of monkeys.
The two males – four-year-old Yinx and three-year-old Ki – are about three foot tall, weighing around 13 pounds, with a slender body and a long, thin tail.
They both came from Twycross Zoo in the UK.
The François langur belongs to a group of primates called leaf monkeys, as it eats large amounts of leaves.
The main threats to the endangered species include hunting, mainly for use in producing traditional medicines (such as ‘black ape wine’) and habitat loss as farming and human settlements expand.
