Construction of the seven-storey office building began late last year. It will accommodate up to 2,000 workers when it is complete next March.
Developed by John Cleary Developments (JCD) One Albert Quay has already attracted multinational companies interested in setting up business in the city centre. Safety company Tyco are already confirmed as future tenants with discussions ongoing with other companies who want a presence in the city centre.
An influx of workers will be welcomed by businesses in the area and a boost in general to the city’s economy.
JCD is also behind the successful City Gate development in Mahon and plans to redevelop the Capitol Cineplex building on the Grand Parade, with plans for a retail and office development. The company is also developing another office block in Mahon next to the Central Statistics Office.
The Albert Quay site was previously occupied by single storey warehouses. The site is prominently located in front of The Elysian and near the City Hall buildings.A double level basement was first dug to accommodate a car park with 135 spaces.
Above them will be seven-storeys of open plan office space. As with other JCD developments One Albert Quay will be built to top international environmental standards something many major companies now insist on.
